storytellers are dreamers

Can I tell you a story?

This podcast is my childhood dream come true—telling stories to folks all over the world from a cabin in the mountains. Here's how that happened. And where you come in.

When I was a kid, I used to love to sit next to my record player on my bedroom floor and play my 45s. While I changed the records, I would dream up stories and tell them into a hockey stick that in my imagination was a microphone. I lived in the suburbs, but I was fascinated with TV shows about the wilderness and mountain men. When I wasn't telling stories, I was usually making a fort in the backyard and pretending it was a cabin.

Today, I'm living that dream here at my tiny cabin in Northern California, and I'm so grateful for all of you who listen and support the podcast by leaving a review or sharing it with your friends. In less than a year, it's grown from zero to thousands of listeners. Now I want to make it better and publish more episodes, and that is going to mean devoting more time and money to it.

I also have a long-range plan of creating a community of folks who sleep better because of the podcast. I've met so many good people through Listen To Sleep, and I'd love to introduce you to each other. I've started this with guest artists and I'd like to take it further. I'm hoping that for this, a bunch of you will see fit to support the podcast with $1 a month. I'm in my mid fifties, and it would be lovely if this could become a project that funds a modest retirement when that time comes. To do that, I need your help. And for that help, I've got a bunch of rewards for you.

For $1 a month, you'll get the new episodes every week a day earlier, without any introduction or ads, plus access to over 10 hours of nature sounds I've recorded up here around the cabin, things like flowing water in a quiet creek, rain on the roof or crickets in a meadow. They're all super relaxing and will make you feel like you're here in the mountains too.

If you can do $5 a month, you'll also get a growing library of kids bedtime stories called Sleepy Shorts - short stories with sleepy sound effects and music. They're perfect for nap time or bed time and adults love them too. Along with those, you get the Nature & Music tracks I make by mixing my nature recordings with relaxing music. They're about a half hour long and perfect for meditation, yoga or just nodding off on the nights you don't feel like a story.

There's a super-supporter level of $10 a month too, if you're feeling like you'd like to do that.

For those of you who love the podcast but can't afford to support it financially, I don't ever want money to keep you from having anything that helps you sleep, so just email me at and I'll send you an rss link you can put in your favorite podcast app that will give you access to all of this for free. Also, if you can recommend the podcast to a friend who has a hard time falling asleep or leave a review on Apple Podcasts, I sure would appreciate it.

We really are all in this together and I'd love your help to realize my dream of making the podcast even better and telling more stories to help more people get better sleep.

Thank you so much.💜
