chosen family

chosen family

In today's Wall Street Journal, they published a story about 'chosen families,' a term that originated in the gay community in the 70s & 80s. The writer got in touch with me via Twitter after I tweeted something about how important both my chosen family and the song "Chosen Family" by Rina Sawayama were to me this year. (If you like pop music and haven't heard Rina's music, do yourself a favor and give it a listen!)

Having the support of a community of friends has always been the center of my mental health strategy, and this year in particular, they have been life-savers for me. Having my fiancé, Joe, here at the cabin and a couple of my best friends living just a short walk away is more than comforting, it's been healing. The isolation we've all felt has been so hard. I'm grateful to them, and to all the podcast listeners who've gotten in touch with me, for all the support this year.

Even though I'm alone when I'm recording the stories for Listen To Sleep, I feel you all there with me. Thank you for being a part of my journey.💜
